A soundbar is designed to be installed on a wall under a flat-panel TV. They contain several speakers positioned to bounce audio off walls for an experience similar to a surround-sound system.

Soundbars can be passive or active. Passive speakers require a 3rd party power amplifier source, whereas active speakers have a built-in power supply.
